Smith was born on the 27th of January 1952 at Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, as George Edward Haddad, a Lebanese-American , whose name translates to”blacksmith” Arabic. He began playing guitar at age four. In 1959 when he was seven, he received an C. F. Martin guitar. When he turned 11 years old, Smith’s mother purchased him the first electric guitar that was it was a Fender Telecaster, a model which was made in 1952, the year of his birth. In 1952, he was earning money as a professional musician performing at various locations like Poconos resorts as well as dances at high school.

His album releases comprise In The World (1981) The album Take A Little (with the Saturday Night Live Band 1993) and Incense, Herbs and Oils (1998). Smith was the guitarist in charge for the group Moonalice from 2007 until 2009.

George Edward Smith (ne Haddad born on January 27, 1952) is an American guitarist. He was the lead guitarist of the group Hall & Oates during the time of their peak from 1979 to 1985. He was then the musical director for the sketch comedy television show Saturday Night Live from 1985 until 1995. He was the head of the Saturday Night Live Band.

In the beginning of the 1970s, Smith quit the Poconos to move to New Haven, Connecticut.
